Grease filled die, wear or other?

I found this penny and noticed it looked like it had PMD. Im guessing thats what it is. Whats intriguing to me though is that Ive seen lots of coins like this and its the first where Ive seen a letter completely gone without some sort of "evidence" left behind. I can usually see where a letter or device used to be....like a ghost of it or some outline. I can usually see where the coin was scraped or crushed or something. This one is weird. The "E" "e pluribus" is not there and shows no evidence of it ever being there. The other letters are pretty bad but can be still seen. Could this be a severe grease filled die situation or is it likely just PMD and the copper just sort of healed or smoothed over time?
