I am hoping to subscribe to the gray sheet. As someone more into coin collecting, I would like to know what are your thoughts on the listings in the gray sheet. Also, how do you use it at coin shows? thanks
The Greysheet is absolutely essential to my auction shopping, especially Morgans. I base the price I choose to pay upon Greysheet Bid, and my feel for real-world worth on Heritage and other auction results. I have it open on my desktop at all times. Heck, it's open now, and I'm not even shopping.
SuperDave, That's what I thought. I see there is a bid and ask quote. Could you clarify that for me? thanks, I'm getting pumped up about subscribing to this.
Unless you are doing alot of buying, I would not suggest subscribing. The prices don't change that much from issue to issue. You can buy single issues from their website either online or in printed form. One every few months should do just fine. Have fun...Mike
I don't get it but my dealer always has a copy for me too look at if need be and I've found that when I go to the show I go to the dealers all have a copy and most of the time when I ask a price they hand me the Gray Sheet and say....whatever Bid is...that is my price.....most of the time I take it...sometimes I'll talk it down from BID but most of the time the Gray Sheet is just like any other price guide...just a guide...if you are willing to pay for it....that is it....I've paid more than Gray Sheet I'm sure for coins just because I've needed that date or mintmark. As has been suggested, there is no need to subscribe. Get the 7 issue package ($13.75) every few months - maybe 3-4 times a year. There is no need for a weekly subscription. What are you looking to collect? Much of the prices in the sheet are not realistic - especially if the coin is a choice original OR if it has had a large run up which is reflected in the sheet..
Heck!, I just use the monthly coin magazines or coin world news paper, all guides are a near-about figure.
