Anybody else notice the extension of the grass patch on the reverse side of the 2005 Jeff bison nickels? It looks like the grass under the front of the bison's feet comes to a point that sort of looks like a dolphin's nose on most coins except for a couple of nickels that I have found. On these, the point is much farther out and is more like a dolphin eating something. I'll post a shot of this when I can. All have been from the Philly mint so far.
I noticed this a week or so ago. However, the difference was between a Denver Mint and a Philly Mint Coin when I noticed it.
Yeah, you're probably right. It kind of looks like a bison riding a dolphin eating a fish. What are the odds?
I'm not sure what it is, but there is no such thing as a "die cud". A "cud" is a die break that involves the rim and at least a little bit of the field. This may be a "die chip". Die chips are tiny die breaks that have no connection to the rim. Cuds, die chips, and other kinds of die breaks are most certainly errors. They are die errors (as opposed to die varieties). Just trying to keep the terminology straight.
I've gotten only 4 of these from work (retail) and I got one with a slight grass extension. It's not as large as yours, but it's a bit longer than it should be. Maybe something happened that gradually got worse? It, like yours, was minted in Philly.
