  1. So If you have not already read my post about my Granddad's collection feel free to do that and get the low down.

Since I just decided to do this roughly five seconds ago I have no prize as of yet. I'm thinking of maybe something from his collection, if I can part with anything! Otherwise something fun from my own.

So here we go. I am receiving a package on Thursday weighing 23.6 pounds. This is more than likely the weight of the box and any other containers. None the less a lot of coins.

With this knowledge, how many coins will there be? I need a guess on the total amount of coins. Not a weight, but a tally of coins. From my recollection as a kid, my Granddad had mostly nickels and halves.

Let's say the person who gets within 10 coins gets the prize. In the event of a tie, well I'll cross that bridge when I get there. If no one is within 10 we'll go to 15 then 20 and so on.

For something to chew on, my calculations are 23.6 lbs of coins is 10704.779932 grams. I looked it up, I'm not that smart.:thumb:

If I have left anything out please let me know, since this is my first ever contest.

    Thanks and good luck,

    Michael

Well, allowing for 425 grams of packaging, temperature, humidity and the weight of the labels, plus doing an algorithim, considering that a nickel, in unc, is 5 grams and a silver quarter is 6.25 grams, clad = 5.67 grams, and using standard queuing theory, along with an assumption of 2/3 nickels and 1/3 quarters, and that he also saved three dimes and seven half dollars :
Finally, I tossed a coin and arrived at: 1,324. Oh no, CoinNewb3 has that one.
    Then I'll say: 1,398.

  13. According to my awesome Fed Ex tracking number the coins will arrive Thursday. Lets say it will take me all weekend to look at and count the coins. So I think Sunday should be the last day, and I'll announce the winner on Monday.

    Who said Mondays were lame!

If the box has 2,301 coins, randomly choose a YN who posted an entry and send him/her the prize. ;)
