Since I am new to this hobby, I think I might be grading my coins much higher than they are. All that AU, VG,etc is so confusing and I think its subjective. Can anyone give me help/ advice on grading my coins.
It's really not subjective at all. The grades are based on specific criteria. http://pcgs.com/photograde There are also great books available for grading education. Here's a couple. The Official American Numismatic Association Grading Standards for United States Coin Grading Coins By Photograph
The ANA grading standards is a must have book that every collector should have in his library. The 7th edition has excellent photographs in color.......
It is something that is going to take a long time to get good at and you can never really perfect it. Every coin, ever die, ever mint is different and it can be frustrating but grading is a big part of the fun in collecting.
