Is there such a thing as a grading set put out by anybody? As I do not really trust my grading skills has anyone put together a set of coins that represent each of the common grades for comparison? I would be very interested in something like this as I feel it is better to look at an actual coin then to look at a photo or read a description of a grade.

PCGS definitely has grading sets...do they publish them?

No they do not publish them. Yes there are quite a few people who have assembled partial grading sets on their own. I say partial because I have never known of anyone who formed a complete set even for a single series. A complete grading set would have several examples of a given coin in each grade.

I myself used to form grading sets, but not in the standard way. I used to form grading sets of a single coin with multiple examples graded by all of the top TPG's instead of just one of them.

edit - the only grading set that I am aware of that collectors could examine in hand is owned by the ANA.

PCGS if I'm not mistaken will be displaying a few of their grading sets at the September long beach show. I think it will be morgan dollars and saints if I recall correctly.

PCGS is in the process of imaging their grading sets and posting them on the PCGS website. I'm not sure when exactly they will be available, but I do think it will provide an invaluable service to collectors.
