Can you send ANACS a graded NGC slab and apply for attribution? Do they sticker the NGC slab or have to crack it and put it in an ANACS slab? If the former, what would they charge for that? I just bought a NGC coin with a visible VAM but was not attributed. I'm guessing the submitter didn't ask for it.
PCGS and NGC only attribute the more significant varieties, such as the top 100 VAMs. ANACS claims they recognize over 3000 different VAMs. Here are links to the VAMs that PCGS and NGC attribute: https://www.pcgs.com/vamvarieties https://www.ngccoin.com/variety-plus/united-states/dollars/morgan-dollars-1878-1921/?page=4 I don't collect VAMs, but personally if I was looking for a specific VAM I wouldn't care if the slab label didn't mention the variety. If I was to sell I would include the VAM number in the title listing and close-ups of the variety (die break/crack or doubled die).
And that is how I bought it. NGC grade 64, seller listed attribute. But it was cheaply priced considering the VAM, I examined the sellers photo, looked it up, and it nailed it. Not sure why they didn't get the full service unless purchased as is from another seller who either didn't notice it or didn't care before submission. Personally, I don't care. But I'm collecting some of these as investment to sell when I get a lot older. Buyers pay more when everything is documented. (generally).
Thank you for the link. NGC does not recognize this particular VAM. So maybe that's the answer as to why it's not attributed.
