i hsave some greatr coins i want to send some away to be graded. theres a little dirt on some but not damage. will this affect the grading as i dont want to clean the surface dirt off. nothing major thanks ?
It's likely not a good idea to try to clean it. Even wiping the surface can leave traces and anything requiring more than just a quick run under the faucet should only be done by the knowledgeable
Unless you think that coin will hit a 65+ with designations or attributions, it's not really worth the expense of submitting. Cleaning is never a good idea.
why does a coin need to be 65+ with designations to be worth submitting? I can think of more than a handful of coins that in VF or less will fetch thousands. Don't fall into the trap of "condition is king", or "rarity is everything to the value of a coin", because neither wear that crown. Desirability is what drives value. Without it, condition and rarity are basically meaningless
I agree. In fact, there is often good justification for getting a circulated coin graded even if you suspect that it won't be slabbed as problem free and that is for purposes of authentication. For example, I am of the opinion that all 1909 S VDB cents, 1916-D Mercury dimes and any other heavily counterfeited key date coins should all be submitted to a reputable TPG regardless of what grade may or may not be assigned.
with the newfoundland collection,, theres a lot of coins never graded highly due to low mintages. hiting an au50 on some would be super thats why i asked. thanks for the great responses. and where im in canada where is the best or who would you say is the most affortable to grade? thank you very much for the reply's
