I per ordered the 2014 red book I already have the 2013 red book but I'm never sure what to grade my coin to look up the value to see if I let myself get ripped off on a deal or not is there a good book I can buy or a site any of you can point me to so I can study up on grading skills I've been collecting for about 1 1/2 years and make to many mistakes so any help would be very much appreciated Thank you Jake
You can start with what you find here - http://www.cointalk.com/t14179/ As for books, there are literally hundreds of them. The two I suggest you get to get started are the ANA grading book and the PCGS grading book.
This is just my opinion, but I think it is a waste of money to order the 2014 Red Book when you already have the 2013 Red Book if your only purpose is to check values. Most collectors already know that the price guides aren't very accurate. Besides, they don't cover the full range of grades and don't go beyond MS65 and PF65 anyway. Chris
The Red Book is great for getting the facts about U.S. coins like size, composition, mints, mintages, some varieties, dates, artist, a brief history, etc. Values are no good. Red Book won't help you grade the coins.
