hello cmccurdy. I would grade yor nice 1795 flowing hair dollar at VG-8-VG-10. To me there aren't enough feathers showing on the eagles wings and Liberty's hair needs to be a little bit more defined near the cheek and jaw. Also there seems to be light porosity near and around the date along with "TES" in "states" on the reverse. Also I think I see a couple of scratches on the eagles lower right breast which may hinder grading.
I do not know but looking at my red book the bow looks a little different below the eagle. But as I said I have no idea I am just looking at the pics in the red book.
I know nothing about these, but the detail in the lettering is quite good while the bust/eagle is heavily worn. Also, there is too much dirt unnaturally around the letters. A beautiful coin, if real. I'd slab this immediately.
In my Red Book its page 183..... I'm not saying that this coin doesn't have 3 leaves...I'm saying that something looks like it could be a fake coin....I can't put my finger on it....I think its somthing to do with the REV of the coin....something doesn't ring true. I would send it in for grading. Speedy
On page 201 of the 2006 Red Book there is a picture of the rev of this coin. I .......don't............thing I'm going crazy???
I went to the attic and looked in my 2003 Red Book and on page177 there is a picture that makes your coin look like it sure could be the real Deal. I will post a pic. Maybe it will help.
Nope----your not going crazy...your using another year of the Red Book than I am....I'm using 2005...what are you?? Speedy
I'd go along with the VG. But get the coin weighed on an accurate scale. If it is correct, I'd get it slabbed.
Update I just got this dollar back from NGC... in a body bag. Reason was "reverse repaired". Thought y'all would like to know... :headbang:
