Grading help: 1909-VDB Lincoln, 1938 D/D Buffalo nickel (now with better pictures)

I just picked these up today – won them in the twice-monthly (or thereabouts) auction at Marshall Field's in Chicago. Can you guys give me some feedback on grades of these?

Thanks for the feedback, and sorry a couple of the pics are a bit blurry. It that's too problematic, I can mess with the macro settings some more on my digital camera.

Edit: I've become a bit more comfortable with my macro settings, so there are new, nonblurry pics of the 1909 cent.

I like Buffalo's but I am not comfortable with offering grades until I practice more. Your reverse did not post, but I do know you must look at how detailed the horn is along with the hump.

Your 1909-VDB looks (though blurred) to be in the MS RB range. Just a guess, but I would imagine that this coin is around the MS64RB range...just from looking at the color and what I could see from the ear, hair and cheek.

To be honest the pics are too blurry for me to tell on the cent. Based on the nickel obverse only, I'm gonna guess AU 55.

I reshot the 1909-VDB, and the pictures turned out better.

Are you blowing those pics up before posting them ? If so - that may be most of the problem. Or are you shooting the pics freehand - no tripod ? I'm not criticizing - I'm trying to help.

The pics are better - but it's tough to grade from pics anyway. But with what you have there I'd say MS64 RB with maybe a shot at 65.

I have to ask, is the 1909 that red or is it the lighting ? even the buffalo looks red,

from the pics best I can make out, the 1909 VDB No higher that an MS-64 If the color is correct RB

    Buffalo nickel AU-50

The pics are not blown up at all. They were taken with a 4 megapixel camera and saved at near the highest quality for a minimum of compression artifacts. The coins were under a halogen desk lamp, which may account for the reddish tone -- the VDB cent is not quite that red, but it's at least RB.

Thanks for the opinions, I appreciate them!
