I was wondering what grading company people prefer to use because I might send a couple of Morgan silver dollars to be graded. I was told that PCI was good but now ive heard that they really arent a legitimate grading company. thanks for your help in advance.
PCGS, NGC or ANACS , if you want to send them to PCGS or NGC you will have to use a dealer that is set up with them or join the PCGS club. ANACS will allow you to send coins in with no clubs to join. Hope this helps.
well at this point, a couple of morgans that my dad believes are unc and are in cases. but mainly i was just wondering because the dealer that i have been to only three times, i have decided i will no longer be using his service for anything. he had said PCI but now im just not sure.
Interesting, it makes me curious what the cases are. Are they Whitman holders, by chance? Any way you can post a photo?
if you send me a pm with your email address i can email some to you when i get a chance tomorrow. or if you would like i could post them on here in a sec. ill put a list of what he has and you say which coin(s) you would like pics of. your choice.
1878 s morgan 1879 s morgan 1880 s morgan 1881 s morgan 1882 s morgan 1880 morgan 1883 o morgan 1885 o morgan x2 1886 morgan x2 1889 morgan x2 1896 morgan 1900 morgan
Well, I guess I was more curious about how the coins ended up on the cases and by that I mean are they Redfield Morgans or just Morgans that were put in Whitman cases, that's all. I suppose it's not really important to your question about grading companies. I would strongly recommend you use PCGS for Morgans. NGC is fine but would not be my first choice. However, I would not consider any other grading company unless you have a specific VAM you want designated in which case I would use ANACS. Another consideration would be whether the coins are a high enough grade that submitting them would make sense. Perhaps some photos for the group to estimate the grades would help you choose which coins to submit and which to leave raw.
All of those Morgans are common dates, so there all going to have to be pretty high MS (like 65+) to be worth getting graded. If you can you might want to try posting some pics before sending them in for grading, it might save you a good deal of money.
they are very shiny, not cleaned but like shiny new. i will post pics of a couple in the morning. they all look the exact same except for date and mint mark.
okay will do. ill see if i can right now but im supposed to be asleep. i cant get off the forum i love it so much. let me see if i can.
alright sorry for the wait. they all for the most part look exactly like this, if you want more pics i can do some more.
Nice coin. I would grade them an MS66 (almost perfect). I don't collect Morgans, but they can easily be graded.
