When a Co. like PCGS grades a coin, will they also look carefully for double dies and other errors, etc . Will they grade and identify it accordingly? I am sending a number of Ben Franklin Commens' to them that may have some double dies. Thanks, BWJR
BWJR, No! When you send a coin to a Grading Service, they only grade, certify and holder the coin unless you ask for other services! In other words, if you believe or know that the coin is a Doubled Die, then you will have to note this on your order sheet for services and pay for the attribution, if you want it noted on the holder. In other words, you have to pay extra for attribution of an error or Variety! Frank
There has been some talk about the Ben Franklin Comm's on a Error forum and the doubling....some think it is just machine doubling and not real DD.....I haven't seen one yet so I can't say what I think Speedy
And most grading services have a rather short list of varieties they will identify on the holders. If they do identify a lot of varieties, they will usually only identify those listed in standard references or just give a very general odentification like DDR, DDO MPD stc with no description. And to get that you usually have to tell them wat to look for, at a higher fee.
