I have in my possession a couple of Star Notes in BEP folders . If I sent them to be graded couldn't I expect the highest grade ?
You'd think, wouldn't you? If that were the case every proof coin encased in original mint packaging should receive a PF70. That just isn't so.
Just because they are in original government packaging from the BEP, just because they've never been in circulation, just because they've never been touched by human skin dies not make them perfect. No, you can not expect the highest grade. That is foolish thinking. Absolutely foolish! It may be nice, crisp and look perfect but it's most likely not. There are so many factors in the printing process and they must all be perfect at the same time for a bill to be perfect. The ink, to much or not enough. Any smears? The cut, is it centered? Any bleeding? These and so much more are things that need to be considered as part of the grading process. And just because it's a star note from the BEP in that original government packaging doesn't make it any more valuable.
No. Some of the notes I’ve received from the BEP would be lucky to get a GEM (65) grade. And, I highly recommend removing them from the BEP folders before the corners become permanently creased.
We know what you mean but in order to avoid any confusion, the Mint produces coins and the BEP produces paper money.
Highest grade ?? Just because they are unissued and in A BEP folder there is no guarantee on grade If you could post some pics I can give you My recommendation.
Thanks for the useful feedback . I felt foolish for not looking at them closer . I would have noticed that the centering was off . I took James advice and removed them from the BEP holders
Thanks for posting some pics, it’s a big help In determining weather or not to grade the Notes, based on the boarders alone these Notes would grade no better then 64PPQ Which would only be a choice unc. Grade At best, so I would recommend you not Send them in.
