Trying to decide if I should have this India 1 Rupee slabbed. I identified in Krause as KM#557.2. How would you grade this coin with those black spots.

I guess it would go MS62 and do not think this one is worth a grading trip. Even if it grades MS63, I wouldn't send it in.

    Thank you for the info.
I was really not sure how much it was worth.
In my Krause there is no retail value given.
I see the KM#557.1 are not worth the effort of slabbing.
But unsure how much the 557.2

MS 61.... Don't grade because value of coin is less than the cost of slabbing. Traci Its still a nice coin. :thumb:

I wouldn't recommend sending in as well it would most likely get returned without being graded anyway at least by the well known ones PCGS and NGC.

I did not notice the KM designation before. Is this a reeded edge coin? Can you post a picture of the edge also please?

This is not a reeded edge, but security and hence the coin is KM-557.1-- the common variety.

    Imo

The coin in the photo looks AU55 or MS60. It is a nice coin worth about US$ 5 I think.

    Very best regards,

    Thanx for the info.
I originally thought it was the .1 version as well.
But when I compare the pics. It matches the .2 and not the .1
    total quandary by me??:confused::confused:

farmerB, thx for sharing... now u know the differ between .1 and .2 :) and thx to u so do i... ;)... i have a feeling that .2 the reeding would run completely accross the rim and not just on the two bordered side of the edge....

    Mumbapuri,
Ya would think so. But being the inquisitive type and a visually detail kind of guy.
Krause put in a pic for both. This is done when the coins do not match. If the coins were the same(obverse/reverse), Krause just adds the text. In this case they inserted a pic - a pure indication to me that there is/was a difference in the patterns.
If you inspect closely, you can see differences. Especially in the denticles. On the .1 they extend to the rim, while on the .2 they stop prior to the rim and there is a space between them and the rim.
I was basing my opinion of this.
Sorry of any confusion that I may have caused.

FarmerB, I guess you are using some old Krause catalog for reference. My 2009 Krause does not have any picture for km# 557.2
Anyway yours is a clear km# 557.1 Type I reverse coin to me cause it isn't a milled edged coin. IMO your coin would grade AU-55 and its worth $15 in that grade.

    Hey FarmerB,
u didnt create any confusion, in fact i really appreciate you starting this thread and sharing the pic... i am a sucker for coins pics :), the next best thing to having a coin is to have a pic :) and i dont see a enough threads on india coins esp brit india coins

as far as opinions of the prices are concerned, i know that these are listed for the prices which have been mentioned above by collect/v/kr on ebay...
but these are also on offer for as low as 3$ in Bbay shop :) most of the 50% silver rupees are for 3-4$ in bbay shop... however i am not saying that for varieties...
