Hello all. I just picked up this 1904H Newfoundland 50c off eBay to go into my Gardmaster (since the 1904 Canadian issue is far out of my price range), and wondered if there were any thoughts on the grade. I was hoping maybe VF , but I know the scratches on the obverse could hurt it. I like it anyway.

Separately, I wanted to ask the Canadian collectors out there what you think of NFLDs in general. Are they undervalued?

VF might be a wee bit generous. I would call it a solid Fine. As for NFLDs, I have owned a few of the halfs over the years, I think the nicest was a 1917 in white lusterous near-(but not quite) uncirculated. Was one of those coins that I really had little interest in, but the coin dealer wanted so little for it that I figured it had to be worth more than 10% over melt that he was asking. This was about 18 years ago. I eventually sold it on eBay after sitting on it for a decade, and as I recall I got about $35 for it in 2002 or 2003. Too bad it wasn't a Walker half with the same date(!)
