Darn it but I may have to send this one off for slabbing too. Just got it in hand today and only difference from the sellers picture is that the flats are very well mirrored (not cleaned) as in Maybe PL. However looking at redbook there is a major price jump just from BU to MS65 (about $800 dollars difference) So the question is do you think this coin could grade out at MS65 or better? If so I may have to submit it
MS65? Not with all the scruffiness going on near Ms. Liberty's jawline and the reverse scratch from the field into the left wing (as the viewer sees it) of the eagle.
I'm gonna post better pics, I don't like these, that "scratch" on wing is virtualy non existant (can only be seen at the right angle with high magnification) the same goes for that so-called scruffiness near the jawline... will post better pics as soon as I get my lighting all set up again .
The pictures didn't create the marks or the scratch. They are there, on the coin. And other pics that don't show them as well aren't going to make them go away. edit - who you trying to convince ? Us, or yourself ?
Here is a very nice 1879 NGC MS64. Do you think your coin is even as good as this one? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1879-NGC-MS...14?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item4d06913526
I'd say MS-63 if it grades , has too many hits for a 64 and definitely won't make a 65 , please don't waste your hard earned money .
I actually agree with Doug on this one. @mrweaseluv, that scratch although insignificant to your eyes may be enough for this coin to end up in a GENUINE or Details holder. If it does grade, I would not expect the coin to exceed MS63.
