Grade this capped bust dime.

This is not my coin, but he wanted it graded.

I'd say a nice AU-50 . A real sweet coin .

 

AU-50, but I think that it would get a details grade due to the obverse road rash.

 

Regardless of the grade, the coin has been cleaned fairly harshly.

 

Is there any luster left ?

 

No way in heck that'd grade at any reputable TPG firm.

It's been scrubbed... bad... real bad. AU-Details, IMHO.

 

Yes it has been cleaned.

This is my fathers coin. He found it metal detecting about 3 years ago. He took a toothbrush to get the dirt off. It was blast white we he found it, but it's toned since.

Any idea on value? My dad took it to a coin shop about 2 years ago and they offered him $80 for it. I'm thinking it's worth around $250 slabbed.

This winter I want to have him send it into NGC.

 

Scrubbed or not. I think it's a great looking coin. I would love to have it in my house display.

 

Yep - agreed AU details and who knows what someone would pay. I think the variety might matter also - here is a site I use.

 

AU details, cleaned, net VF.

Unfortunately, I do not think NGC/PCGS will slab this coin in a problem-free holder.

 

Agreed. I would buy it but not for AU price. I enjoy the Bust series coins they are my weakness. I buy them in any grade.
