Just wanted to test what I think this coin will grade and what others think. Let me know if I need to take better pictures and I will if need be.

    It doesn't have a lot of luster.So I'd say MS62.

hmm I'll go with ms-63 and just figure that the loss of detail in the hair is due to the glare on miss liberty's head

MS64 - on a good day might even have a shot at 65.

I'll say MS-63. I've also seen ones that look this good go AU-58... If coin was in hand my opinion would nodoubt change.

From the pictures I'd say MS63. Luster seems to be lacking. Probably dipped at one time.

Thanks for the grades. This Morgan was in the best condition of about 12 I had been given. The others are not as clean but still in real good condition. Can a dirty looking coin grade in the MS? I read about using Vasoline on them with a q-tip to clean them. I am against cleaning coins with most types of cleaners but this seems harmless.

I would definitely not clean a coin ever especially a nice one like that. This coin could easily on a good day go MS-65 but will probably hit 64.

    I'd guess at MS63, maybe 64.

    Don't clean it.

If you received 12 Morgans, be sure to check for some of the key VAMs. I'd stack the 12 coins in a pile and check the reeding first. The wide-reeded (IR - infrequently reeded) 1921 Morgans are on the Top 100 list.

I took the coin to my dealer and he said it is AU. Maybe my photography needs some work...

If your going to clean you coin, here are the 3 steps I ALWAYS follow....

    1. Secure the coin tighly in a vice, then presure wash the coin
    2. Bang the coin with a ball peen hammer to remove the excess dirt
    3. Buff to a shine

^And that kiddies is pretty much what polishing and dipping your coins does to the grade.

I would revise step 3 to say "buff to shine with electric floor buffer."

Yes, because a lot of the time it's only toning.

    It isn't.

Either that or he was hoping you would sell it to him at an AU price
