I can't decide if this one should come back as a ms-64 or 65. The reverse is very clean (the scratches around the eagle are raised, so I believe they are die cracks, as well as the huge line die crack), and the obverse is very clean as well, however there is a very slight rim ding at about 11 o'clock. What do you guys think?

Can`t tell the grade from your pics, anything from MS62-MS65. Pics look manipulated to show the coin at an angle with the least scuffs and tics.
I will tell you that it looks like an 1878 7/8 VAM 38.
It is a PCGS 1878 7/8 STRONG or NGC or ANACS 1878 7/8 VAM 38 in perhaps MS64.....

The pics aren't manipulative in any way, I took them myself.

Nice coin and nice VAM zaneman! Definitely a MS-65 unless the deduct for Die Cracks. Does anyone know how the Grading Services Companies grade when considering Die Cracks as these detract from the coins perfectness and possibly eye appeal (except to us VAM Collectors!!!! LOL!!!)?

The companies don't substract for die cracks, as they aren't damage, but rather inherent to the strike.

Looks like a solid 65 to me.

    Leadfoot there is no spoon

The coin looks like a 65 wear wise. However, your pictures make it hard to tell what the luster is like. It should go 65 if it is very nice...Mike

It has a very nice satiny luster. Very strong eye appeal.

Nice coin! It matches the cracks on my VAM 38.

The R in PLURIBUS should look like this....

Some of the stars should be strongly doubled like this...

LIBERTY has a strong shift to the left like this...

Nesvt, it is in fact a Vam 38! You helped me identify the Vam in a prior thread
