I've been waiting anxiously to post this and now the day has come. What are your opinions on the grade.I was thinking around the range of MS-65 - 68?Thanks B12
Thats a wonderful coin (and I mean WONDERFUL) but the hair on the indian seems worn. It looks almost polished. Is that a circulating Proof? Ruben
The coin appears wierd to me. Almost like its been dipped. Could be the pics though, and I hope I'm wrong...Mike
I thought it would go a little higher than MS-64.I guess I need to improve my grading skills. Anyway, thanks for the help everyone! B12
Ms64 An interesting point was brought up earlier - pointing out that there may be wear on the hairline - however, many Buffaloes merely had strikes which did not bring out the detail of the hairlines just above the braid - check some listings on ebay or perhaps a friends collection and you will see Ms-63 and 64 Buffaloes with that type of hair detail. While the coin looks exceedingly clean (fields, etc...) and its luster is almost other-worldly, a coin with an average to below average strike really cant go above a 64 - this coin is a great coin with an average strike - hence MS 64. Obviously, I'm estimating based on medium res pics as opposed to real life with cotton gloves and a good magnifying glass - but that would be my estimate. If it had a bit of detail in the top area of the flat part (above the braid), it could probably go 65 maybe 66. By the way, the highest PCGS coins for this in Proof and Mint State are 69 and 68 respectively. Here's a link: www.coinfacts.com/nickels/buffalo_nickels/1937_buffalo_nickel.htm
