Well, I thought I would stop collecting US coins, and focus on world, but I think I have been bit by the capped bust bug. Sorry for all the threads. What do you guys think of this one?
Doug has definitely had a good part in teaching me a lot of what I know (as have you). I like how inexpensive world coins are, as well as their designs, however I decided I simply don't know enough about them yet to make educated purchases. I'm going to study, go to shows and look, talk to dealers etc, and then I am going to start buying. I bought several world coins, but later found I got burned on a lot of them.
IMHO, I'd go with an AU-50. Without looking at other angles, it appears the hair above the ears have a little too much wear for me. The hidden luster is nice. Tom
I don't want to dampen your enthusiasm for such a gorgeous design, but please beware of this series -- there is not a series that is more subject to doctoring, cleaning, and other problems. I grade the current example AU details, cleaned, net XF. I suspect the telltale hairlines of an old wiping (followed by a dipping) will be evident in the coin in-hand. To the coin's credit, there is still some luster left and it does seem appealing at first glance.
