Here is a nice looking, but worn 1822 CBH O-111, what grade would you put on the flip. Thanks for looking Ben
ben...its a nice coin w/ a lot of character. i believe the obverse is a vg and the reverse definitely qualifies as fine since about half feather detail is visible, and motto is complete. nice strong liberty on obverse and some hair details show. i would probably give it a overall vg-10. nice even wear, no prominent dings. very nice color too. thanks for sharing..steve
if the coin could only talk.......can you imagine how much it would have seen??? the early coins w/ the smooth wear from being in people's pockets and being used in transactions. they each develop their own unique characteristics. what a very cool hobby we have!!!
Yep, I can hear it now.. Hey spend me, its dark in this pocket.. Ben, I really like that half. I would hit it with a F-12. Nice and even wear, nothing distracting, no marks or bad hits.. Thats a goodun.. :thumb:
Thanks Jim and Mark. Seems F-12 is about the going grade based upon input from this site and the other Bust Half sites. Thanks Ben
Now, is that going to be the official word from good ol' BNT ? :goofer: I don't know Ben, you may want to land on the conservative side and give her a VG10. You don't want someone sending her back in for the BNT re-grade service and BNT having to pay the difference! ha ha ha
Not sure, hasn't been deliverd yet. Will give it the full (BNT, 4 Points Double Reverse Evaluation) though when arrives. Nothing will escape my attribution... Thanks for looking Ben
Ben is going to market those bottles as "Gradin' Juice". Then he will have T-shirts made that say "Get BENT" with he and the juice in the background.
http://www.coinfacts.com/half_dolla...2_half_dollars/1822_half_dollar_varieties.htm compared to this one it looks a little off... the number 1 seems thinner... liberty's eye seems more rounded.. is that just wear or is this a test or am I looking at the wrong variety. On the reverse the leaves are different.
I'd grade it a solid VG-11, and value it like a F-12. Very nice coin Bone. Lots of eye appeal to my eye.
Coingal & Leadfoot, Thanks for taking a look. Coingal, I don't have the coin "in hand" yet, but the attribution I've provided is based upon the coins characteristics as noted by Al Overton in his books "United States Early Half Dollar Die Varieties" and Edgar Souders "Bust Half Fever." As you can see in the link there are over 15 different varieties and sub-varieties for this year and each die (obv & rev) varies just a little bit. Once I get the coin the attribution will be much easier. Take Care Ben
