Hi all... I managed to pick up a 1918 India sovereign the other day and was curious of its grade (I suck at grading!) I was hoping some forum members could help me... I took some pictures and I hope they are OK... if not, I'll just try again! thanks in advance!

Rahul, that's a very nice coin you've got there. You do realise that the 1918I Sovereign was restruck frequently at the Bombay Mint prior to 1970,when the practice of restriking from very old dies was banned.

This isone of those where it's hard to say based on the pics, the coin looks like it might have some slight rub - but that could be the pics. So I'd say it's either AU58 or MS63.

Hi Rahul... Am planning to buy one of these myself. How much did you pay for the piece that you have. I have located one that is graded as Extremely fine and was wondering what a fair price should be...

Howdy shomesg - Welcome to the Forum !!

I wouldn't pay more than 15% over spot. Given your location you might have to pay a bit more.

Hi, thanks GDJMSP for your help... looking at the coin directly, I cant really tell if it has a (very slight) slight rub or not... need to train my eyes a bit better.
I paid pretty much what is the above suggested price... $170 total... it was 10% over spot at the time of purchase...

I like the look of it. MS-63 if there is no wear.
