Does the FBL designation not depend on which TPG you send it too? I thougt I heard something about one only looking at the top or bottom set or something.
Correct, NGC is both sets of lines, PCGS is bottom set only, but neither top nor bottom has full lines on that coin.
The lighting isn't good enough to grade it accurately, but it's probably a 64 and although it looks close I don't think it is fbl.
I call it a 64. Too much noise in the open field to be a 65. Nice coin its going to be hard to get a FBL on that one. ITs been awhile since I did my set of Frankies but I recall those late 60 issues were hard to find with good bell lines.
It's interesting in that I appear to be the only person to think it is FBL. Keep in mind that the interpretation is based on how I view the closeup image; the lighting is poor. I would grade the coin MS64/65 FBL.
I won't comment on the FBL with the lighting, however I would call the coin a 64. If I may ask what are the pick up points for a DDO on a 63-D?
Is this the same 1963-D Wexler has on his new discovery page? I know there was just a New 1963-D Franklin half error found its was the same graded + looked like this but there all yellow @ Anacs + was same detail note on holder. But When Coin World or any of the Coin new notes a new die error a lot get graded for a while MS-66FBL:thumb: nice!!!
The pickup points of this DDO are: "Light spread on LIBERTY increasing from Left to Right" This is CONECA DDO-004.It was not sent to Wexler, otherwise it would have a designation like: WDDO-xxx I was a little suprised by the MS66 grade. My thoughts were: Hammered strike.(great details on Ben's hair and collar, also on the eagles wing and pass and stow.Sharp luster. You gotta remember that the graders examine a coin with a 5x loupe, not a 3,000 power futz capicator electron microscope!!! I was looking over the PCGS "plate coins" in 65 and 66 grades and you can ALWAYS find some dings, scuffs and bag marks and things you dont like. Were not hoping for a MS70 here...... My personal opinion, when i sent it in is MS65FBL
I concur with Tom B, that is an easy MS FBL 64/65 I am leaning towards 65. Nice coin. Send it in to PCGS in slab and asked for at least FBL 65 if it doesn't come back that, send it back to ANACS for their guarantee in grading. You will never know. Very nice coin. That spot on the head keeps it from a super grade. G
I'd give it a 65 , can't tell about the FBLs but I think ANACS might have blown that call too . Looks like the bottom lines left of the crack might be broken . IMHO
