Word is getting out that I am the resident numismatist at my church, so people are bringing their coins to me for evaluation. This one is beyond my experience, though, so I need y'all's help! Please place a grade and a value on my pastor's seated liberty dollar! Looking at photograde and Coin Values, I come up with Fine-12, and $400. Please help me refine this!
ANA grade would be G6 because nothing in LIBERTY is clear. TPGs are probably gonna say VG8-10. The reverse is nicer, but the obv kills the grade.
F-12 Detail, perhaps VG-8 or VG-10 net. Maybe $275-$300 retail and $200-$225 if you're selling. Of course most of the people to follow are far better than I at this.
That's part of the problem I have with that - it's misleading. Look at these - in all of them you can see some letters in LIBERTY. http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=1122&Lot_No=1615#photo http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=1127&Lot_No=8098#photo http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=1121&Lot_No=9087#photo http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=415&Lot_No=8557#photo http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=423&Lot_No=62632#photo
Interesting wear pattern on the obverse there, the center of the shield really decelerated the grade at an alarming rate. Due to the strong reverse (really nice even circulation wear) I'd anoint this nice seated dollar a VG-10 $300+ dollars strong
I'd be willing to go with PCGS's F-12 where it not for that black vertical mark at 1:00 and the "X" at 10:00, as many sld's have greater detail than their weak liberty's point to. With the marks VG. But what are those marks?
