These are the best pictures I could get. The scratch on the obverse is not on the coin, it is on the cover. What would this grade? What kind of value does it have, and would it be worth it to have it graded? Thanks

Beautiful coin! I'd say it would rate MS65 or better...

Your coin has a 'D' mintmark so it is a 1940-D.

The coin appears to be uncirculated but the photos are not in focus across the entire coin which makes it impossible to determine the exact grade. The bands are full. Based on what I can see I would say the coin should grade MS-64 FB, possibly MS-65 FB.

(Hint: you might get better photos by taking the coin out of the 2X2.)

Thanks for the replies. I really need a good lighting setup. Can anyone give a ballpark value, and is it worth sending off to get graded or not?

No. It is worth somewhere around $20 to $35. The cost of having it slabbed could exceed the value of the coin.

Ok thanks. I wasn't sure how much value was added for full bands. Either way, I got a good deal at $5.00
