The wife and I went to my mom's for supper tonight. I mentioned that I was getting back into this hobby and she dug around in some stuff and pulled out two small boxes. Inside were a bunch of nice old coins my grandfather had saved over time. She gave them to me. They contained: 5- Peace Dollars- x3- 1922 x2- 1925 3- Morgan Dollars- x1- 1879 x2- 1921 1- Walking Liberty half 1943 7- Franklin half dollars 53-63 105- Kennedy half dollars 1 $8.00 roll worth of silver quarters from 38-59 1 $10.00 roll worth of silver quarters from 60-64 1 $8.00 roll of bi-centenial quarters 100- wheat pennies from 1918-50s 1- unopened roll of wheat pennies All appear to be in original condition. I'm really liking the Morgans. I'll try to get a few decent pics up tomorrow.
check the kennedy half dollars. 1964 will be 90% silver, 1965-1970 will be 40%, and anything after that will be face value. so check those to see how many are silver
No 64's. Many early 70s but no 40%ers. The Franklin halves are pretty nice and I did pull out a 1940-D quarter in halfway decent shape. I'm planning on reading the online book at Heritage about grading. Hoping to become a little more educated, soon. Not a fan of Kennedy halves, but I'll probably keep them just for the heck of it.
Would love to see some pics of the Morgans :smile and it gives you one heck of a start to a US collection
Congrats on the nice coins that you received from your mom! I will bet that she gets an extra nice Mothers Day Gift! Frank
Thank God for parents and grandparents. They have probably been more responsible for the core beginnings of more coin collections than anything else. I received part of my grandfather's silver dollar collection through my father, and this got me started. My cousin received most of the coins, but she sold them for cigarette money.
