So last Thursday I had to make some deposits at my bank and I asked the teller if he had any 2 dollar bills. He asked me how many did I want and I asked him how many 2 dollar bills did he have. The teller had 118 dollars worth, so I said I'll take them all. The first 9 bills he pull out of his drawer where just the regular bicentennial notes. Then he placed on the counter a block of 100 dollars in two dollar bills. I looked at the top note and mediately proceeded to ask him if he was sure that's all there was. That was all they had. What do you think about this find?
I think you hit the jackpot with Series 1928 Notes Lou!! Do not flip em back like that and get some mylar sleeves quick!! WOW what a find!! The Series 1928 G in XF run 15-18 each... RickieB
You mean bank robbery. Those are just the type of tellers I like, the nice and color-blind type. The guy works at a bank handling money every day and he can't tell there's something funny about these. :goofer:
RickieB, I was very gentle with the pack when taking the pictures, but I wanted to make the point by the photos that there are coins and notes to be found by any of us. With a lot of luck and some perseverance it can happen to any collector on this forum. Lou Yes, a whole pack of them Scott. :smile It's the economy. People are hurting for money. Lou Noost, I had my poker face on. I just said thank you and walk out of the bank. The notes are still in the pack so I haven't taken a closer look at them yet. Got to get them in sleeves before I thoroughly check them. May be I'll find a mule note. Lou Eddie, the tellers at my bank are young and they could care less about what goes through their hands each day. I tried to tell one of the tellers what to look for and I could tell he did not give a darn. Lou
Hey Lou, that date on that strap looks like January 26. If that's right, that's a long time for a bank to be holding currency they're not circulating. Just your luck they didn't redeem it. :thumb:
Looks like there was a mix of notes in there....you might find a star or 1928B in there too! Funny, I see at least one note with a corner torn off. Those always scare me because it confirms that a complete idiot handled the note...make sure I wash my hands after touching those just in case the stupidity is contagious!
Unless there's a 1928B in there...or maybe an A, I doubt any of those go for $30 in circulated condition...especially 1953 or later or any note with a torn corner. Still a fantastic find though!
Deuces were really popular in the Depression around racetracks because that's what the mutuels are based on, and it's still considered by some to be good luck to rip off a corner when you make your bet.
Actually it's sort of the opposite. $2 bills were considered unlucky (all around...not just at the track) and tearing off a corner was supposed to cancel the bad luck associated with the bill. If all 4 corners were torn off, the only way to get rid of the bad luck was to get rid of the bill. So....like I said, a missing corner confirms that a crazy person previously held the note!
All I can say is you are very lucky I wasn't your teller...I never would have let the public get a hold of those beauties. Nice find!!!
