well these are my picture of the coin in hand.. it dosnt look bad no prob. with the "t" small ding , no fine lines under 30x loupe. a few lines random, but none in a cleaning fashion . but it might have been diped litely?? not really frosty as i would like...im going 63/64 take a look and see what you think.. mark
i know.. thats hard to belive that pcgs"the gods" called that a 64 .. but it maybe, just a very ugly 64..LOL my 21 is nice, i think im being over critical.. there is luster.. but its different.. its a rounded luster insted of a cartwheel.. ?? im wondering since i havent seen many high relife 21s and that its a bowled coin insted of flat?? anyways thanks!! mark
luster It's amazing how the luster can vary with die state, anywhere from proof like to cartwheel to flat. As for the relief, I am not nowledgeable about that either.
It's hard to tell from the pic's but the finish doesn't look natural. I suspect it's been dipped. Still a nice coin.
ya my thoughts exactly... i just cant say 64 and feel without doubt.. but the rev. is really nice, lots of luster but that freeked me out. luster isn't cartwheel like im used to..its a rounded luster, must be the make of the '21. so with coin in hand id say 63 obv. and 64 rev. i was gettin nervous figured just got took but another dis-honest coin seller... sometimes its worse than a car lot out there guys ..LOL it will go good with the other peace i have there all 63 or 64's thanks mark
The luster on all Peace dollars is different than that on Morgans. You won't ever find one that has that cartwheel luster. The dies were made differently.
Wow, very nice. Glad to hear it didn't turn out to be a problem coin. A very beautiful example! :thumb: Phoenix
thanks phoenix, between you and GD , you have been both a great help on this coin for me... look forward to talkin with you both for a long time.. have a great weekend mark
Mark, If you have some time, would you please post a picture of the obverse, with the coin outside the capsule? The reverse is without a doubt okay, but to me the obverse looks like it was cleaned (which would be very unusual for both sides not to be cleaned, so I am guessing that the obverse is actually okay). If the obverse has in fact not been cleaned, it is my opinion that your coin is an ms-63. There is some light friction on the chin, as well as a two hits on the face, which would hold it back from 64 IMO.
I think the coin looks MS64 to MS64+. I think you should get it graded. It looks like it might have possibly been dipped. I can't really tell. Many major grading companies including PCGS and NGC will still grade dipped coins. I think that even if it is dipped it is still a great looking coin. Remember if it was dipped at one time it might still tone to a nice golden color. Of course if it was overly dipped it might tone and look dull. I would get it graded and see what it comes to. Looks like a nice coin even if it was dipped.
ya, i might have it graded eventualy. if i dont sell it first. just dependes if the right buyer comes along.. thanks mark
