I got this out of a case at an antique store. The only case of coins they had in the whole place and the only CBH there. This is my first one. What would you guys grade it and why? Also, guess the price. I'll post it later. Just give me honest opinions. I won't be offended. There are some heavy scratches in the fields:
Tough date to find, the 1820 is the 3rd least (mintage) struck date of the series. I'd say you paid $100 for the coin. Take Care Ben
I don't collect older halves. Got a few for my typeset. I like the overdate. Quite interesting. Looks like they re-engraved the "2" but just overpunched the "0" on the "9". Is that possible?
I think it's about VG and I'll guess you paid $50 because the seller probably didn't realize exactly what he had.
Actually the seller did know what it was. I got it for 69.95. I knew what it was but I have to admit I'm not that knowledgeable on the series. Luckily I had my Red book in the car. I have a feeling it might have been there quite a while. I doubt there are many coin collectors in my area and this is about the last place they will go. There's about a billion knick knacks in this place and one standard sized , locked, glass case with some coins in it. Didn't see much for steals. Mainly fair prices though. It's graded a VG and I agree with that.
Yes, very good find. I've been looking for a CBH but can't find anything as good a deal as people on Coin Talk seem to find.
