I think you got a good deal. GSA Morgan’s are a cool slice of numismatic history. I have always been of the mind that the GSA dollars were where the TPG’s got their inspiration from. I am not good at grading Morgan’s but I believe an 1884-cc starts around $180.00 in low MS grades. I will likely be corrected shortly. Morgan’s aren’t my forte. But yeah, you did good.

I know the basic story of the GSA Morgans and I wish I was born 50 years earliar so that I could get my hands on these coins for the 30$ starting bid. Im 17 at the moment of this post. What I know was in the 70s the GSA did a audit and found thousands of morgan dollars sitting in government vaults many were choice examples of harder to find dates. So to make some extra cash for uncle sam they sorted them and sold them in a aution type set up. The minimum bid for a uncirculated carson city was 30 dollars and if you lost you got your money back if you lost it. If you over bid you still had a good chance of getting it for 30 dollars though. It was all done by mail in.

Some years back I installed a water heater for a friend of my Dad's, the man was also a neighbor, anyway when I was finished he asked how much he owed, I said nothing, he insisted on paying but I still said nothing, so he gave me a fifty dollar bill and two 84 CC GSA's with box and cert., as the years went on I would regular check on him, bring in firewood, take him to the doctors etc, After he passed his niece brought me a box that had my name on it, it had some Morgan dollars another 84 CC (GSA) and a mix of large cents, 2 cent and IH pennies plus a 1962 proof set, (my birth year) envelope still sealed and still is.
