I went detecting this morning at an old park that used to hold G.A.R. meeting around the turn of the century. I have made some good finds there over the years and the place stil keeps given up some stuff. Here is my take for today. This is what I think to be the best find of the day. This button is old. I can tell by the length of the eagles neck. Here is the pretty nice Barber dime I nabbed. And the two Indian heads and one lone V-nickel. I had another fun time out finding old coins at a neat spot. Thanks for lookin, Jim
Not really 5-8 inch range. But the diggin at this particular park is hard. Lots of roots to dig through. Still fun though. Thanks
Are there any tricks or tips you can recommend? What about some slightly wooded areas around the parks? I am going to try to get my father to go out soon with his detector. He bought one, but so far it has just sat around.
Nothing can beat experience and knowing what your detector is telling you. Other wise you will just dig junk all day and get frustrated. Saying that, at the right location anyone can have success. Location, Location, Location.
Great finds!! Its been a long time since I have had a day that good!! In 2 days of looking last week the best I found was a silver mercury dime 1943 nad a few IHC.
Nothing wrong with that. Believe me I have days where I don't find a thing, well a thing I consider not worthy. clad coinage and the like. A good time out for me consists of at least one silver coin or and Indian penny or buff or some type of old coin. The last two weekends have been great for me. Hope I can keep up the finds. I may try and sneak out today if I can. I don't have much time to detect so I try and put myself in great potential sites of old finds. Jim
Thanks Frank. From what I have seen from the detecting forums I post on you are correct. Some however say it was made earlier. Around 1840s? Jim
