This issue of Julia Domna has been in my bucket list for a long time. Even though I've seen many examples, they're either too expensive or the butt of Venus is worn flat. This coin was reasonably priced with an appealing reverse.

    IVLIA DOMNA AVG
VENERI VICTR, Venus standing right, naked to waist, leaning on column to left, holding palm and helmet (attributions say its apple, but why would any Roman god hold apple that's not even native to the Mediterranean?!).

In regards to the obverse, I think it's a die match to the below coin Posted here.

I like the phrase "appealing reverse". Applies a few ways here. :)

Congratulations on the bucket list coin! This is a great type, and that's a great example.

One of the coins I most regret selling was of this type (sold c. 2013). Venus did have a bit of a flat rear, but I really loved the die-clash, leaving a ghostly image of Domna surrounding Venus.

It occurs to me that I also recently mentioned regretting selling my Septimius Priapus types. I may have to accept that I'm attracted to ancient coins for reasons less sophisticated than I'd prefer to believe. Perhaps I'm also more conflicted than I realize, having sold all three of my favorite "crudities"...
(What are you doing to my psyche, Ancient Roman Coins?!)

Doug Smith has the photos of his examples of this same clashed die pair posted in various places. Once you've seen a couple, this die pair becomes instantly recognizable. You can see them on his Brockage vs. Clashed page: https://www.forumancientcoins.com/dougsmith/brock.html

Doug has a good "His & Hers" page for this Venus type of Julia Domna & Septimius Severus (yes, it is very unusual for Septimius to have the feminine rev. types, which makes it extra interesting):

Several of the Domna/Venus types on his other pages: https://www.forumancientcoins.com/dougsmith/jdemes.html

EDIT: I had forgotten about that previous pile-on thread of Venus' butt coins! The photo of one of Doug's clashed dies (and all the non-clashed others, incl. Septimius) are there too, as are many other lovely examples and similar types:

Sweet looking and she doesn’t have a flat butt that I can see. :)

Congratulations on the acquisition. It's a bucket-lister for many of us. Glad you were able to pick one up with a well-defined...uhh...reverse ;)
