Lots of Gordians goin' around, I'll post mine:
    Gordian III.png
    Description:
ROMAN EGYPT. Gordian III, 238-244 AD. Billon Tetradrachm (12.96 gm) of Alexandria year 7(243/44 AD).
    Obv. Draped cuirassed bust
Rev. Eagle with wings spread, standing on laurel wreath.
They say it's toned and in VF+.

Bought this lovely coin, suggested by my friend who collects ancient eagles, at the Colorado show during the ANA Summer Seminar (the day I arrived). This was sold previously at a Pegasi auction in 2011, and now resides in my collection. :woot:
This coin's patina is like a dark chocolate and literally impossible for me to photograph, but found a decent photo on acsearch which will do.

Not knowing any of Gordian's history, I did some research and was surprised by his short history.

Post your Gordian eagles if ya' got 'em!

Man, that looks like a bow legged chicken reverse. RARE!

Actually, a very nice coin @Aidan_()

I like that one, never seen an eagle so odd looking on a alexandrian provincial.

    Very cool coin @Aidan_() !!!

The reverse is certainly unusual and the obverse a style I haven't noticed before.

SIGH...I am TET-less when it comes to Gordian III

Similar, yes? With a little wear the wreath ties look like chicken feet and the wreath like bowed legs. When designing coins, we need to pay attention to how the design will look after a few years of use.

Thanks, and great coins also! I bought the coin plus two others at the same dealer, blowing my coin budget in like 5 minutes... (how did that happen?) As a bonus, I had enough to buy 20 Celator magazines at .25 cents each! :D Lots of reading ahead!

Nice Gordian Tet. Would still like to see a picture of the coin in its toned state.
