Yes, another Gordian III thread. Turns out I was shopping for one too. Feel free to post your Gordian III coins again, or whatever!

If you don't have a single Gordian III, what are you waiting for? Join the cool club and get yourself one right away.

    I'll add a rough Gordian/Tranquillina Provincial with a Nemesis reverse (Moesia Inferior) that I didn't post on Smojo's thread:p

Is there such a thing as having too many Gordian III? I ask because I plan to specialize on him. I intend to collect as many imperial and provincial issues of his as I can. I know most of you find him borring, but I find his coinage very well done and of fine style, and extremely interesting. And the fact that most of it is readily available at reasonable prices is a huge plus.

I'm still collecting coins from all sorts of rulers and empires. I don't want to limit myself to just one ruler or one empire...but it would be fun to specialize on one person, and Gordian III seems like the perfect fit for me.

I think it will provide a lifetime of opportunities! GIII has so many coins-- a huge area of specialization but rewarding given the good condition and relatively low cost of many of his coins :)

That's one of the things I like about him, the large number of themes on his coinage. You don't start to appreciate it until you look in a catalog like Roman Silver Coins and see just how many documented types there are just for his silver alone. It is a vast and rewarding area of specialization indeed. And his provincial coinage seem to be a very large and diverse group too.

I only had this sestertius of him, but I recently sold it off.

Here are 2 Sestertii. The first having Apollo on reverse, whereas the second has Sol on reverse. Hope you like them.

Nice Gaggle of Gordons @Sallent .

Since I recently posted my sole GIII in a prior thread, I will post his Predecessor and his Successor...

A sweet JAZ Numismatics coin. I thought about bidding on that one too, but chose to save the money to get more Gordian coins.

Balbinus is awesome and rare, but my heart is beating for Gordian III coins.

That Philip I is amazing too. You have some sweet coins.

Thank you very much. It is fun for me. It is also great to watch everyone else's postings throughout CT... just good stuff to learn from.

Yeah, I was happy with the Balbinus capture from @John Anthony . And I like the Phil I zoo... I actually "lucked" into The Arab when I found it!

I like your coins Sallent, but since I just posted all my G III's last night I'll refrain.
I'm with you. His coins are pretty cool and I'll amass quite a few I'm sure.
With my interest much bigger than my bank account I'm sure it won't be more than maybe a dozen but who knows.
I have a few side collections going and none I expect to finnish this year or next. After all Rome wasn't built in a day, greatness takes time to achieve.

Oh and @Mikey Zee - ROFLMAO.

I doubt I'll get more than 2 or 3 more Gordian this year. I have a ton of Greek and Judean coins in my want list and I suppose I should not keep postponing them for too long.

And yeah, 12 total sounded like nothing. I figured that was a typo.

I'm glad you've decided to focus on Gordian III so that you'll keep away from Caracalla! Haha!
