Hello all, I'm thinking about buying some uncleaned ancients and trying to clean them. I've read up extensively on cleaning techniques and would like to give this a try. Are there any good websites for buying authentic uncleaned ancients (preferable Roman)? Thanks in advance.
The ground! (Ba dum tsss) I kid I kid. Sadly, the only place I've been able to find is on ebay. Sometimes I'll get some cool stuff and, being ebay, sometimes I get burned. But once you find a seller you trust please post back in here cause whenever I find someone, they don't last...
Last year I ordered one lot from a FORUM auction member. It was not particularly good. It will probably be the last lot I order, unless I just want to have some fun with a "grab bag" of ten coins or so. Honestly, I think you'd be more pleased with the results and end up with more "keepers" if you just went to VCoins and searched for Roman Lots. These, for example, would end up being less than $3 each. https://www.vcoins.com/en/stores/zu...ins_nice_quality_as_found/678539/Default.aspx Multiple VCoins dealers offer lots ranging from 10-100 coins from time to time. Of course, they will be semi-cleaned and will contain no scarce or valuable coins. But there's still more work to be done on the coins, especially if they are sold "as found." If you just want to educate yourself or have fun, those lots may serve those purposes. That's how I've tried to approach the lots I've purchased in the past.
