Good price for a 1970-D Kennedy Half?

I've managed to find every date and mintmark for the silver Kennedys just from roll searching, except for the 1970-D only issued in mint sets. I stopped at a coin shop looking to buy one to complete my collection, and the price was $17.00. It seemed kind of high to me, but then again I have no clue. Was this a fair price, and if not, what price should I look for?

I think you paid an average price for the half hollar, although you can also buy the entire 1970 mint set for that price also and that way could have got your half dollar plus the rest of the "D" mint coins for that year.

I didn't buy it. I'm going to look for one at a better price, even if it means taking one in a lower grade. I just need it to fill a spot in my folder.

My folder has a cardboard filler in that hole. I do hope to find one via roll searching so I can pop that cardboard out and put it in there.

I already found the 1987 D and P from roll searching. I've even filled in over half a Franklin Folder from roll searching. I also know someone who found the 1970 Kennedy Proof. So I have high hopes of eventually finding the 1970D (...eventually....)

a 1970D half will probaly cost you around $13. or you can get some halves at the bank and find one! i'd rather find one, but that would take awhile. its not impossible!:kewl:

Quite right. I just found mine in circulation a few months ago. It just takes time...

Actually, finding or having a circulated 1970-D might be more valuable than getting the UNC one. After all, EVERYONE has the UNC one since it only came from mint sets. Who knows, 40 years from now, circulated 70-D's could be going for 10 times what an UNC does.
