I have some relatives who recently stumbled upon a large collection of assorted coins from europe and australia. I do not know of many dealers in the area that even sell foreign coins at all, let alone anyone who would be willing to buy so many kinds. Any ideas?

From the sound of it, you're looking to sell them all at once - yes ? If so, I would contact a dealer who does sell this type of material if it were me. Otherwise - I suppose eBay.

Depending how large the collection is, the first thing I'd do is either invest in a Krause book or check one out of your local library to make sure you aren't overlooking any nice sleepers in the collection.

After that, you have a couple of options...You can sell it by the pound or lot on ebay, you can make a few more posts here then list some in the open forum, or you could even donate some of them to a local school or coin club for the kids. When Joe & I add any new stuff to his collection, we keep out extras/duplicates and put them in a bowl. Then whenever I have extra kids around (frequently!) and they notice our collection, I show them a few goodies then pull out our goody bowl & tell them to pick a couple to keep. I'm well on my way to converting a few of those short people.

I have a similar stash. I used to let my kids take them for show and tell, and pass around coins to the class for keeping. I got a few thank you notes from the teachers who thought it turned out for wonderful classroom discussions.

I always wonder how many, if any, of those kids still have theirs.
