If it's a 1979, i'd say type 2, if it's a 1981, i'd say Type 1 The 79 type 2, and 81 type 1, I think were the same (slightly boxed in but not heavily bordered), the 79 type 1 looked like more like a square with something wiggling on it than an "S", while the 81 type 2 really stood out.

I thought the date was the indicator for the 81s? Sorry I'm not being any help here, I still need to learn a lot about modern coins.
