Figured, its late Saturday, and how better spend the time than to post some pictures of some good looking coins. No questions, no reason, just good looking coins.... Check out the slight toning on the reverse, and miss Liberty with a need for a touch-up on the rouge... Who's next? Post 'em, if you got 'em.
Here's a recent acquisition of mine. Just out of curiosity, what grade would you give it? (I hope I did the pics right!!)
From my eyes (young in the hobby) and from the pics, I would say XF-AU. There looks to be some wear on the high spots, but a looker nonetheless!
Yeah, the pics really don't do much justice for my Morgan. I am fairly new at grading Morgans, but I believe it is full BU, just a not-so-good strike. I really need to take pictures instead of using the scanner. Scanning "washes" out the luster.
If you have the option of loading the pics on a website, and posting the link, that too can help on the detail offered. Sometimes the weak strike/wear question can get a little murky with the smaller pics. (My opinion)
joecoin, I have to do some more investigation into the large cent arena. That is a nice little gem...
In my humble opinion I would say the Morgan is in the XF range becuase of the breast feathers on the eagle. Good looking coin tho
XF? You guys are tough. The New Orleans mint is famous for weak strikes. Looks like a high AU or low BU. It does have the weird color of cleaning though. Pics are very tough to grade.
Howdy ndgoflo - haven't seen you here in a while As you say - scanning does a poor job of depicting luster. But it does a good job of illustrating detail. Because of this - I do not think the coin is BU. I will agree that it is a weak strike - but both the obverse and reverse appear to show signs of even wear. Thus I would grade the coin EF40/45.
I think my avatar is a very nice looking coin but how about this one. A 65 dime showing the schooner "bluenose" in frosted cameo
bromac4, not sure what the schooner has to do with the Morgan, but I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone that did not consider it beautiful. Of course, some of the posters on the forum here might dispute whether it is XF, AU, or BU ;-)
The schooner has nothing to do with the Morgan, I thought the thread was for good looking coins. Bill
It is, I believe cdcda is having a little fun at our expense! (Which is completely fine by me - so long as I figure it out while it is still funny!!!)
Sorry, ND, thought you were being sarcastic. However, if you have any mint state or high grade Draped Bust coins, would love to see those.
