Hi, I won these 4 NGC PR69 CAM coins on eBay today... $199.00 Good deal? I noticed the '61 PR69 CAM Sells for abt $500-$700 on Teletrade. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...16495&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_1290wt_1165 Thanks...
I hate to break it to you, but the last 1961 69 cameo sold for $115 on Heritage. The one I am citing is NGC and I will be the one you saw was PCGS. (That went for $1035 at Heritage, but that was 2005.) All-in-all, you did pretty well, but not $700 well.
Hey rh, I think you made out like a bandit. Besides being georgious cents and I mean downright drop dead beatiful, they are worth well over what you paid for them. So enjoy the heck out of the. I would. zeke:high5:
I can't really answer the OP's question directly, but I'm happy to share my experience.... NGC-graded proofs from the 60's tend to sell for a significant discount to their PCGS counterparts. The perception, rightly or wrongly, is these coins are overgraded. I would be extremely wary of these coins resale value. I would look to eBay and TT for pricing, but don't forget to figure the transaction costs (from 20 to 30% of hammer). I would discourage you from purchasing proof coins from this time period slabbed, or if you do, do it sight-seen. Remember, these proof sets are available by the thousands, and these years (1961-64) are very cheap (for instance I purchased them a few years ago for $10-15). If you really want to collect these coins and get good coins for a "good deal", cherrypick proof sets you can examine in-hand. Obviously, this presumes you can grade well enough to accurately assess the quality of the coin, but that's part of the fun in coin collecting, if you ask me. These coins are CAM when the coin most proof collectors covet in these years are DCAM (or UCAM as NCG calls it). On the bright side, the NGC slab is one of the older ones (and presumably more conservatively graded), but to be honest I haven't focused enough on the grading standards of NGC for moderns over time, so I would look to others to comment further. [Edited to add: To temper the preceding sentence, it is also very dangerous to presume slab age means a coin is conservatively graded -- be wary of that trap.] It would have cost you about $150 to have them graded to begin with -- there's just more value in my eyes in collecting these coins raw (i.e. the "slab" to "coin" value ratio is out of whack, IMO.) All of the above said, if you like the coins and think you paid a fair price, then I'd say you did fine. Honestly and respectfully submitted, hoping to help...Mike
I may have the 61 and 62 regraded at PCGS...they look deep Cameo to me...and absolutely no flaws and superior strikes...AMAZING Coins...I have a Deep Cam 63 PCGS cent and I can't tell any difference in the frost...the 63 and 64 are def cams...but gorgeous!
Well I am having them crossed over at PCGS. They guaranteed me if they could not meet or exceed the grade they would just send them back. It will cost me $48.00 plus shipping for the 4 crossovers. These coins slabbed by PCGS is a good $48.00 investment if you ask me...plus I really feel at least two will come back Deep Cam 69.
They look nice, but I'm not seeing cameo. It's probably the sellers images, as is the norm. Good luck on the grades. PCGS plastic is the way to go for optimum re-sale $$ (not a real Kool-Aid drinker, just stating well-known fact, as most will probably agree with me on this point).
Collect what you like and enjoy the hobby. Best to research prices before spending the money. More price history is likely to be found in the Heritage and/or Ebay archives, as well as Teletrade. Here are a couple others from Teletrade: $18 for 1964 NGC PF 69 CAM http://www.teletrade.com/coins/lot.asp?auction=2561&lot=1144 $30 for 1962 NGC PF 69 CAM http://www.teletrade.com/coins/lot.asp?auction=2565&lot=1087 $36 for 1961 NGC PF 69 CAM http://www.teletrade.com/coins/lot.asp?auction=2339&lot=1125 At NGC 69 DCAM or in PCGS holders the story would be different. However, it appears from the brief survey that $199 is well over market price. Please, do not compare prices for top pop moderns if they are in different companies holders. The crossover rate tends to be tiny, and mostly one way. For the small time collector (vs. an expert specialist), the chances of winning at the crossover game for modern and ultramodern coins tends to be tiny.
Yeah Teletrade is pretty volitile. I guess it depends on the individual auction...basicly a crap shoot... Here are some more examples of PCGS 1961 PR 69 CAMs sold on Teletrade for much higher prices than any NGC 1961 PR69 CAM including those listed above....That's why I'm crossing them. http://www.teletrade.com/coins/lot.asp?auction=2663&lot=1061&imagetype=j http://www.teletrade.com/coins/lot.asp?auction=2633&lot=1032&imagetype=j2
