This is the most I ever spent for a coin and am wondering how I fared. Any opinions? I liked it and it will also be the oldest US coin when it arrives so I figured why not.
How much did you pay for this coin? It looks to be at least an EF, but the resolution of the picture is a little too low for me to go any further than that.
I guess that would have helped. I payed $72. I will get better pics when the coin arrives... Well I will try to!
Well, my 2009 Redbook lists a price of $45 in EF, and $65 in AU for an 1864 Large Motto, so it seems like you might have paid too much. Higher resolution photos/scans would help to make a more definitive judgment, though.
And Red Book prices are generally high. The most important thing is that you like it! You should consider seeing what a dealer (or a coin show) in your area has to offer for your next purchase.
I just doesn't look right to me. Looks like somebody cleaned it, and I see a bit of corrosion on the 2.
Yep - need better pictures. These do make it look cleaned with maybe some corrosion, but it looks AU details to me.
Came today!!! Alright the coin came today. I think it looks a little better than the sale picture but I am wondering about some marks along the left side of the shield. The coin looks awesome but I am hoping it is real! Let me know what you all think and what a rough grade would be. Ballpark.
The color looks much nicer in your photo, but I would still say cleaned - but not as harsh as the first picture showed. Not a bad coin in my opinion and if you are happy with it then that is what counts.
