Is anyone familiar with Scott Travers books? I bought "One Minute Coin Expert". Great book and I like his writing style but much of it's on the basic side IMHO. Thought I might be able to use something a bit more advanced. Has anyone read "Coin Collector's Survival Manual"? Any opinions on his (or anyone else's) books would be appreciated. I am also interested in a good book on grading.
I like the Survivor Manual, but as a beginner I think I learned more from Coin Collecting for Dummies, although someone here didn't like Dummies. Maybe it depends on which one you read first as to how informative you find a book.
Easy answer - read everything you can find on the subject - at least 3 times When I get on this subject it seems I can go on forever. And no doubt, many of the members here are saying - Oh No - why'd ya get him started on that again !! So I'll make it short and sweet this time. Best book on grading there is in my opinion - Official A.N.A. Grading Standards for United States Coins. Then there's Brown & Dunn, Photograde, the PCGS & NGC books - and a host of others. There is also this book available on-line - Click Here But I meant what I said - read EVERYTHING ! Study it, memorize it. And then look at every coin you have an opportunity to see
The library has got that one. I read what i needed to know. I really didnt learn much due to its beginner type of book
You need to know everything you can...even though you may not need it now you will down the road...I agree with GDJMSP...read the WHOLE book 3 times. Speedy
