I do not own a camera but I'd like to get one (not too expensive) for taking coin pictures. Any suggestions? What else will I need?
any digy camera that's in the 170-225$ range with a macro function should be good for taking pictures. You just want that macro fuction , combined with good lighting you will be able to take very nice pictures. I only have a point and shot digy camera and I take nice pictures ,,, nice enough for me anyway. Here is a exemple:
depends on the coins , small silvers I use fluorescent lights , large silvers I tend to use the sun and a filter I made out of paper. I sometimes use a incandesent light for various coins. I go for the cheapest alternatives Probably paid like 25 $ for my lamps "both" and the sun is free...
I just use my regular digital camera and put a loupe in front of the lens for close ups. it works fine for me . takes a little practice, but it works. took me a while to figure out, but use a good light and do not use the flash. It makes the pics turn orange. hope this helps BILL

I bought the Canon SD880 IS a couple of months ago, it takes great pictures and it's small and easy to keep in your pocket. http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=145&modelid=17626
