I have a question that i am failing to locate any information about. I recently aquired a Kennedy half that is golden in color, a 1971D. The coin is almost mirror like and has two more dates punched on the lower obverse, in front of and behind kennedy's shoulder. A 1960 and 1985. Is this some kind of a 25th anniversary coin. I'm not so interested in it's value as I am of the reason it exists. Any info will help, thanks.
Howdy silverking - Welcome to the Forum !! The Kennedy you ask about was a genuine coin, but then a private company took it, stamped in the other dates and sold them to the public. They are rather common. You can find them will all sorts of dates stamped into them. As for the golden color - it could be toning or it could be the coin was gold plated. They did that to some of them too.
Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. I've been collecting for some 25 years and hadn't run across one of these. Thanks again.
Greetings Just carl I received the coin as a gift from my mother-inlaw and doesn't remember how she got it. Old age does that to you.
