The gold roman coin pictured is from Zeno's second reign. August 476 - April 11 491. There are twelve known obverse sides to this Zeno Tremissis because the engraver was illiterate. However this particular coin, (yes it is authentic) features unlisted variants on both the obverse & reverse sides making it impossible for me to value. If anyone has any idea what a coin like this is worth I would love to know... as well as what the heck to do with it! Reverse: VICTORIA A VCVSTORIM Obverse: D N ZENO PE RP AVG Thank you. Arthur
Hi Arthur, and welcome to the forum. It sounds like you know a lot more than I do about ancient coins (about all I know is that they are old ). I can't help you on this one, but I invite you to stick around - your input will be welcome, and maybe someone else will have some useful information for you.. I can say that you have a beautiful coin, in a remarkable state of preservation for its age.
Hi and welcome to the forum That surely is a beautiful coin. I wish I could help you out with it, but I had to thank you for the picture at least.
Thank you both for your welcoming comments. I only just found your forum today and I look forward to both helping and learning from other members. Arthur
Welcome, sir. There are a few ancients collectors, who post here. I think you will enjoy your time spent on this forum.
I think I've seen some interesting replies in other forums which were neat. Myself, I can't help but wonder if it's a barbaric piece!
Arthur, the Emperor Zeno was a Byzantine Emperor, not a Roman one.The reason why is because the Roman Empire (sometimes known as the Roman Empire of the West) fell in 476 AD.
