Unless it is a 1970 Canadian Quarter. There were people paying RCM employees to strike various coins on different kinds of blanks. The RCMP used people from the FBI to crack the ring. If you still think it's gold you need to weigh it and compare the weight to a regular quarter. It should be a LOT heavier, not just a little for any plating.
In the early 2000’s when folks were excited about the state quarter series, many curio companies would plate them and sell them in gift shops and the like. I have several myself. Not done by the US Mint and are considered simply damaged.
