I was at the bank today, and the teller showed me six of these gold Ike dollar coins. I've never seen anything like this before. I'm sure it's just some sort of collectible scam, but the teller said it was worth $1. So I bought them. Did I at least get $6? Does anyone know the story behind these? (The pic is of a regular Ike and a gold one. I know my scanner ain't that good.)
gold plated for whatever reason. Kennedys have been known to be found like that. $6 worth if u got 6 of 'em
wow. thanks for the quick reply. At least it's good to know that they're at least real. I guess the next question is, is there any kind of market for them? or shoulr I just freak out the people at McDonalds?
I would freak out the foreigners at mcdonalds. I have a gold plated dollar but its a SBA. I thought it was neat. Its all worn, but atleest its not worthless. Uno dollaro. I'll probably just cash it in with the rest at the bank.
I've got several gold-plated coins that I've set aside from larger lots. What a waste of gold. It reduces the value of the coin drastically, often to face value. There should be a law against doing this. It would also stop those hucksters from selling "gold edition" and "platinum edition" plated quarters to ignorant collectors.
Sometimes Ikes tone a goldish color. Are your coins gold plated, or just gold toned like the one below:
Yeah, the scanner ain't the best. Regardless, that's not tone. These things gotta be plated. the 6 I got are all just 1971
