Stopped in to get my weekly silver fix and caught gold fever instead.

    Very nice!

I love gold myself but it’s just insane how much it costs and then I end up getting distracted by pretty coins and buying an ancient Roman coin. XD

I hope to save up some money for gold soon though. I would love to own an MS St. Gaudens Double Eagle

I have one St. G. Double Eagle tucked away in my SDB. I traded silver for it years ago.

That's pretty! With the refund of my sales tax fees for the last couple years from eBay on coin purchases, among other things I bought, on the cheap, an NGC details AU 1876 California fractional gold .50 cent octagon (cause octagons are cool) and an NGC MS-65 Sweden 1874 Overdate "3" GOLD 10 Kronor (because it was less than $300). That gold bug you've got is catching! Achoo!

What's the Diameter on the Gold Dollar ? Aren't they the smallest coin, even smaller than the 3 Cent Silver piece ?

What I find interesting about the California fractional "currency" is that they were made by jewelers / whomever and don't match up for the current values of gold even then (small small). The one I bought was made by a Philadelphia jeweler. The Secret Service put a stop to those non-mint issues after 1880. Gold dollars came in different sizes - For Type 1, 12.7 mm. For Types 2 and 3, 14.3 mm (For Type 1, .500 inch. For types 2 and 3, .563 in). I've read that the 3 cent pieces were 14mm though I'm not 100% that those are the little silver ones.

That used to happen to me all the time. I usually called my dealer before I drove down. I think he would intentionally put gold coins in his main case while I was on the way because I couldn’t control my gold fever… The cost of gold the last year or so has tempered my fever thankfully.

Ah, Randy-the personal touch! You don't see much of that these days.

Yeah….. He is a good man and is quite adept at separating me from my folding money. I wouldn’t trade him and his shop for anything in the world.
